Kia Reaches a Manufacturing Milestone- One Million Vehicles Produced in the USA!

Last Friday, in West Point, Georgia, our manufacturer Kia achieved something that we here at Fort Wayne Kia are very proud of. And what would that be? On July 12, 2013, Kia rolled its 1 millionth vehicle off of its American assembly lines! And fittingly, that 1 millionth car was a white 2014 Sorento SXL.

It is well known that Kia is based in South Korea, but it is much less publicized that the company has made sizeable investments in American manufacturing as well. Kia made an initial investment in their West Point, GA plant of $1 Billion dollars back in November of 2009.

Since that time, the production plant has created over 11,000 jobs for the people of West Point and the surrounding areas, when including both on-site and local suppliers. The plant has produced about 360,000 cars per year, including the popular Optima mid-size sedan.

Byung Mo Ahn, Group President and CEO for Kia Motors America, elaborates on the significance  of this achievement; "Building one million vehicles in less than four years is a tremendous achievement and one that each one of our more than 3,000 team members can take great pride in. People are the heart and soul of this company, and our team members' commitment to world class quality is one of the major driving forces behind Kia's unprecedented sales and market share growth in the U.S. over the last few years."1
